The Moat House Annan - Accessibility Statement

Pre-arrival:

  • We are easy to find on-line being registered as both Google and Bing businesses and can be found on many other search engines, Facebook, Twitter, many accommodation listing platforms and other online databases. You can search for us on-line using a search engine or using Google Maps or Bing Maps.

  • Full contact details including a "Freephone" telephone number are detailed on our website and social media listings

  • We are constantly updating our features and facilities and provide regular updates through subscribed user mailings, Facebook and Twitter.

Getting to your property:

  • Maps and descriptive details on how to find The Moat House are provided on our website and are provided to booked guests before the start of their stay.

  • Travel by rail or bus are possible withe both the railway and bus stations being only 1/2 mile away. Taxis with disabled facilities are available to transport you to The Moat House are available but prior booking is advised.

  • If walking from Annan town centre the route via Lady St/Bruce St avoids the short but steep dip that needs to be negotiated if accessing Bruce St directly from the High St or via Battery St.

  • The property is easily identified as it has a clearly visible sign to the left of the Front door.

Parking:

  • There is space for up to 4 cars in the parking bays on the opposite side of the road to The Moat House. The residents of the houses opposite do not own cars. Additional parking is available on the wide pavement directly outside the property

  • There is currently no "Drop Curb" from the road to the pavement but the curb is not high and is easily managed.

Entering the property:

  • Keys to the property are located in a key-safe which is located at a wheelchair accessible height.

  • There is a short ramp from the pavement to the front door and a slight threshold to manage. There is a grab rail to the left of the front door at an accessible height.

  • The front door is in excess of 90cm wide.

  • The front door can be held open if necessary by using the hook on the back of the door.

  • There is an automatically activated light at the front door to help illuminate the entrance in the dark.

  • Inside the front door is the entrance hall with seating for 2  and space to park/charge wheelchairs/mobility scooters.

Getting around:

  • There is level access throughout the building except for one of the five bedrooms which has three steps to access.

  • There is a passenger lift between the ground and first floors which is big enough to take a powered wheelchair user and a carer comfortably.

  • All doors in the property are at least 90cm wide.

  • All corridors and landings are in excess of 100cm wide.

  • All rooms are large and even with furnishings still allow a great deal of space for wheelchair users for ease of turning etc.

  • There is sufficient space at tables for a wheelchair user to access them comfortably.

  • The garden to the rear of the property is accessed through the back door which has a ramp to the level patio area with further ramps and level access paved and decked areas to allow easy access everywhere.

  • The level areas of the garden are demarcated from the ramped areas by use of different coloured paving stones where level areas are predominantly RED whilst ramped areas are coloured Buff/Yellow.

  • An Invacare Birdie battery operated hoist can be used anywhere inside or outside the house for transfers where there is not a ceiling track hoist - Max. load 180kg

  • Retractable stair gates are situated at the bottom and the top of the stairs.

Bathroom Facilities:

There are two wet-room bathrooms, one on each floor, between them offering a very high specification of features and facilities:

  • Ground Floor Wet-room:
    • Wide Doorway - 90cm +
    • X-Y (or H) "Access All Areas" ceiling track hoist. Maximum load 130kg
    • Level access shower area​
    • Hospital/Care Home standard TMV3 specification thermostatic anti-scald shower with easy to use shower controls
    • High and low level shower riser rails allowing the shower head to be positioned almost down to floor level
    • High and low level grab rails in shower area (up to 150kg load)
    • Adult (self-propelled) bidet/shower chair
    • Adult (attendant propelled) over-toilet/shower chair
    • Childs high backed, postural control bidet/shower chair
    • Clos'o'mat "shower/bidet" toilet with remote control footpad - toilet height is 50cm with easy access from both sides. Maximum weight is 190kg
    • Wall mounted swing-away hand rails to both sides of toilet.
    • Mobile "Smart One" mini toilet paper dispenser for single handed use can be positioned wherever required
    • Low level (80cm high) wheelchair accessible hand basin with sequential lever operated control tap (starts to the right with cold water with the water getting progressively warmer the further to the left the control is turned. The basin also benefits from a large touch activated, back-lit, heated mirror to make personal care activities easy
    • Grab rails to either side of the hand basin
    • Rise and fall Ropox adult size shower/changing table with raisable cot-side - height adjustable 30-100cm. Max load 220kg
    • Emergency alarm system with pull-chords to toilet and shower areas
    • Tommee Tippee nappy/pad waste bin

  • ​First Floor Bath/Shower-room:

    • Wide Doorway - 90cm +

    • Luxury roll-top portable hoist accessible bath with easy to access and control bath filler tap & fold-back shower screen for ease of access

    • Bellavita bath lift. Max user weight 140kg.

    • Hospital/Care Home standard TMV3 specification thermostatic anti-scald shower with easy to use shower controls

    • Shower riser/grab rail (up to 150kg load) in bath/shower area

    • Toilet with swing-down armrest/hand-rails - toilet height is 50cm with limited access to left side and moderate access from right side

    • ​Twin Low/High level (80/90cm high) wheelchair accessible hand basins with easy to use lever operated mixer taps. The basins also benefit from large touch activated, back-lit, heated mirrors to make personal care activities easy

    • ​Emergency alarm system with pull-chords to toilet and bath shower areas

    • Tommee Tippee nappy/pad waste bin

Kitchen Facilities:

  • Wide Doorway - 90cm +

  • Wheelchair accessible height light switches

  • Wheelchair accessible height fridge freezer

  • Wheelchair accessible oven with "Slide & Hide" door and secure fully extending oven shelves

  • Wheelchair accessible microwave

  • Wheelchair accessible slide/swing out cupboard shelves and storage

Bedroom Facilities:

There are 5 dedicated bedrooms and the option to use the lounge as a 6th bedroom

  • Bedroom 1 - Ground Floor

    • Wide Doorway - 90cm +
    • X-Y (or H) "Access All Areas" ceiling track hoist. Maximum load 130kg

    • Bed 1 - Electrically operated Bock Belluno height adjustable profiling bed with "hideaway" raisable cot-sides and standard foam mattress.

      • Bed size is 120cm wide by 200cm long.

      • Height adjustment is 37-80cm.

      • Maximum person weight 135kg.

      • 100cm + access all around to allow transfers from both sides

    • Bed 2 - Electrically operated Bock Belluno height adjustable profiling bed with "hideaway" raisable cot-sides and standard foam mattress.

      • Bed size is 90cm wide by 200cm long.​

      • Height adjustment is 37-80cm.

      • Maximum person weight 135kg.

      • 100cm + access to allow transfers from right side

    • Manually operated, height adjustable wheelchair accessible desk with extending leaves to both sides and tiltable desk top to provide adaptable eating, working, play area

    • Manually operated, height adjustable over-bed table table

Note: Due to the large room size and all furniture being wheeled, the physical position of beds 1 & 2 and other furniture are easily interchanged/moved to suit needs.

  • Bedroom 2 - First Floor

    • 2 x divan beds which may be linked to make super-king sized bed
      • ​Bed Height is 50cm​
      • 100cm + access to allow transfers from right or left side

Note: The floor of this room is NOT suitable for heavy powered chairs​

  • Bedroom 3 - First Floor
  • Regrettably this room is not independently wheelchair accessible due to its having 3 steps to access
    • Wide Doorway- 90cm +
    • Kingsize bed
      • Bed height is 50cm​
      • 100cm + access to allow transfers from right or left side

  • Bedroom 4 - First Floor
    • Wide Doorway- 90cm +
    • Bed 1 - Single electric profiling bed
      • Bed height is 55cm
      • 100cm + access to allow transfers from right side​
    • Bed 2 - Single bed
      • Bed height is 50cm​
      • 100cm + access to allow transfers from right or left side

  • Bedroom 5 - First Floor
    • Wide Doorway- 90cm +
    • X-Y (or H) "Access All Areas" ceiling track hoist. Maximum load 130kg
    • Electric profiling double bed - both sides of bed move together
    • Vibration pad under mattress
      • Bed Height is 55cm​
      • 100cm + access to allow transfers from right or left side

Lounge Facilities:

  • Wide Doorway- 90cm +

  • Plenty of room for wheelchair access

  • Two electric "Rise & Recline" armchairs 

Other Equipment:

  • Adult attendant-propelled shower/toileting chair (works with Clos'o'Mat toilet). Maximum user weight 200kg.

  • Adult self-propelled shower/commode/toileting chair.

  • Children's attendant-propelled shower/commode/toileting chair with postural support and tray.

  • Invacare Birdie mobile battery operated hoist for use where needed inside or outside. Max user weight 180kg.

  • Invacare adult 22" manual, self-propelled, collapsible wheelchair - unfortunately no seat cushion as someone took it!
  • Three wheeled, height adjustable walker with hand operated brakes and fold down seat.
  • Slide transfer board.
  • Under mattress bed rail/rise assist rail.

It is essential that the use of any piece of equipment is only undertaken by people with knowledge and familiarity of that piece of equipment and that a full risk assessment has been undertaken by those persons. It is the responsibility of the user to assess the piece of equipment and it's suitability for use intended and no responsibility will be taken by the owners of The Moat House for any failure, damage or injury that may ensue from its use.
